I’ve always been a stills photographer, and I’ve never really been very interested in moving images. When my wife and I went to Rome recently on holiday, I found myself using my iPhone to shoot short video clips moreso than using my professional stills camera to shoot stills. There was something about the energy and elegance of Rome that really lent itself to video. I shot 50 minutes of footage over four days, and cut it down to under eight minutes in Adobe Premiere. The 8mm retro effect gives it an ‘instant nostalgia’. I think this kind of short video clip based format is a really nice way of reliving a holiday. I reckon I’ll be using more video in my professional commissions in the future.
