Being a wedding photographer isn’t just about photographing smiling couples and jubilant family and friends. The brief, whether explicit or implicit, for every wedding photographer is to capture the spirit of the day and that includes capturing moments, gestures and the little details.
The photograph above is a good example of wedding photography detail. It’s of Abbie’s wedding dress, hung up on her wardrobe door, which I shot while she was downstairs having her hair and make up done. I noticed that there was an old photograph of her parents’ wedding day next to the dress. And I really liked the symmetry and the poetry of it. Wedding days are a very proud day for parents, so I thought this would be a really nice photo for them. Even on their wedding day, it may have crossed their mind that one day they will have children who will themselves get married.
