Most couples getting married hope for a bright, warm sunny day, and dread it being a washout. In reality, on the day, the weather never matters. It’s always a great day, and the weather will be whatever it will be.
From a wedding photographer’s perspective, hot and sunny isn’t actually ideal anyway – harsh shadows, squinting, sweating are all things we have to contend with. At Katy and Steve’s wedding in Dorset last week, the weather varied from torrential downpours to bright and sunny over the day. And it was still fantastic. As a professional wedding photographer, I can’t just stop shooting because it’s raining – the rain was part of the story of the day so it was important I captured it. This shot is one example of many where the rain became part of the visual account of the day.
