Many of my wedding photography clients also ask me to do an engagement shoot. This is a really good opportunity for us to get to know each other better, and help couples relax in front of the camera. In the same way that many couples practice their first dance prior to the wedding, some couples want to practice being in front of a camera. Whether on an engagement shoot or at a wedding, an important part of my role as a wedding photographer is helping couples to feel at ease and act naturally in front of the camera. I know that many people hate being photographed. I’m pleased that clients who dread having their photo taken do tell me afterwards that I made it a lot easier, fun even. So when you’re considering hiring a wedding photographer, consider if it might be useful to also do an engagement shoot a few weeks or a few months in the build up to the big day.
