One of the main challenges for a professional wedding photographer is taking bright, sharp pictures in dark interiors. Some of the darkest venues are the poshest hotels and most beautiful old churches. This photos was taken at a beautiful but darkly lit suite at the Savoy in central London. I did not use a flash, and while I did brighten the picture slightly in post production, that is not why this picture is nice and bright.
It is because I used an ultrafast (f1.4 – if aperture settings mean anything to you!) prime lens, that I am able me to take bright, sharp photos. I would strongly advise that when you are searching for a wedding photographer that you ask them with they use ‘fast prime lenses’. If they say the only use zoom lenses and flash, I really don’t think they’ll achieve the best results for you. Especially if any part of your wedding day is going to be in low light, you should only a book a wedding photographer if
